Guess what?!?! My map desk was featured on the 'Head of the Class" Etsy Finds email today! The Etsy finds email goes out to all Etsy members, both shop owners and non shop owners. Super cool, huh? :)
To say the listing has gotten a lot of views is a understatement. :) I'm sure it will new home soon, so it may be enjoyed for a long time.

before & after: children's chalkboard desk
School is almost out for the year, but I couldn't resist painting this child's school desk.

The before isn't anything too fancy; just a plan boring school desk. Do you remember using desks similar to this as a child? I surely do.
I gave the top three coats of chalkboard paint, allowing the paint to fully dry in between each coat.
Sadly I don't have any chalk at home to try it out with, but there's some at the shop so I'll doodle lots when I drop it off this afternoon. :)
I didn't want the chair to feel jealous, so it got a brand new coat of paint too. :)
before & after: mapin' it!
I finished the vintage school desk. And LOVE it! I wasn't sure how it would turn out (or if it would at all), but I didn't have anything to lose and went with it.

I deterred from my original plan of using strips after I found this large vintage National Geographic map on Saturday. Thankfully, I had just enough to cover all of the wood.
Can you find where you live?
Like it? This desk is available to purchase (ON SALE!!) through my etsy store: http://www.etsy.com/shop/NouvelleVieFurniture
vintage school desk
I found this little gem a few weeks ago. It needs some work, but I think it has potential to look great.
(Sorry for the bad lighting in the pictures. I was feeling lazy this evening and didn't want to move the desk from our guest bedroom, nor did I want to edit the pictures.. we all have those days)
I'm thinking of covering the wood with strips of vintage maps. I'm not quite sure how this will work (or if it will at all), but I'm going to give it a try.
Update: I have finished the school desk and it turned out great! View all of the details here.
If you're having difficulties picturing a piece of furniture covered with old maps, check out some of these pictures.
